Tapes

Oh Tapes… This piano album is very dear to me. When I was around 10 years old, I sneakily started playing my parents’ (my mom’s parents’) old piano, attempting to immediately learn the advanced version of the Pirates of the Caribbean medley (yeah.. I know). After a year of pure stubborn practice, without proper lessons, I managed to play Pirates of the Caribbean. My love for playing piano grew and it has not stopped since.

How did Tapes come around? I love improvising and playing the piano is an emotional outlet for me. These moments of improvisation can happen suddenly and I still find it difficult to predict when the best ones happen. Therefore, I started to record some of my playing sessions with just a pair of Rode NT5 mics. Over the course of a few years, I played different pianos and improvised specific pieces with a deep personal connection or meaning. Tapes is a collection of ‘perfectly imperfect’ moments that I managed to capture.

Tapes II will come.
